Czech Republic wins the World University Cycling Championship with overwhelming pace in the final day of the MTB

Everything is ready for the ninth edition of the FISU 2024 World University Cycling Championship, which will take place from May 29 to June 2, 2024, in the rural town of San Carlos.
Among the preparations, 176 volunteers are ready to contribute to different areas, such as the Medical Committee, Logistics and General Services Committee, Protocol Committee, and the Emergency Response Team, among others.
These volunteers and staff are members from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC), the University of Costa Rica (UCR), and the National University (UNA). Educators from local high schools and representatives from the San Carlos’ Sports Association will be providing further assistance.
For instance, the University of Costa Rica is providing six volunteers who are part of the Physical Therapy program. They will take part in the Medical Committee.
“It’s a rewarding experience. There has been a lot of interest in becoming a volunteer in the event. From people working in other educational institutions in the Northern Zone to students from various public universities, everyone has shown up,” said M.Sc. Andrea Pacheco Araya, who is the coordinator of the Volunteer Committee.
Melania Rojas is one of the students who will volunteer at the event. She is an Industrial Production Engineering student, who says that being part of this team has been a unique and significant experience. It has allowed her to contribute to the success of an international event and learn about the organization and logistics of such large-scale event.
“For me, this experience is a way to show my gratitude to my university. I’m thankful for all the opportunities it has given me and I want to show my pride and commitment to TEC. By becoming a volunteer, I not only support the development of university sports, but I also reinforce values like discipline, teamwork, and excellence, which are fundamental both in sports and in life,” said Rojas, who is currently in her fifth-year of college.
“I can say that being a volunteer at this event is a transformative experience that will allow me to grow personally and professionally. I would like to support an event that will leave a lasting mark in every member of our university community and all participants,” Melania Rojas concluded.
The World University Cycling Championship is one of the most prestigious competitions globally, and this is the first time it is being held in the Americas.
The organization estimates that nearly 200 cyclists from around the world will participate.
The event is endorsed and technically supervised by the International Cycling Union (UCI), the world’s most important cycling authority. This means that this competition is on the official agenda of this sport at both national and international levels.
